I’m a lifelong vegetarian. Yup, from birth… However, I have learned to eat two meaty dishes during my career as a writer and an editor.

So, no fried calamari for me on a hot summer’s day, no succulent chicken satay from street stalls in Southeast Asia, no chewy biltong stuck between my teeth, not even one itty-bitty sliver of anchovy on my pizza… They all look delicious, but they’re not for me.

But, as a writer, I’ve taught myself to eat the frog every morning.

One of my clients was genuinely alarmed when I told him this on a Zoom call recently — he knows how strictly vegetarian I am. 🐸 I explained it was my way of saying I tackled the most challenging task in my day first.

Second, I’ve learned to eat the elephant one bite at a time (the metaphorical mastodon, that is…🐘).

And never has this seemed so relevant than when writing a book.

Now, whether you’re dreaming of writing a book, are in the middle of writing a book, or have finished and published your book, you know that’s only half the job, right? Yes, just finishing a book is an immense effort, worthy of applauding yourself…
